What is Iridology?

Iridology is an alternative medicine practice in which the analysis of the eyes is used to determine the level of health.

The eyes reveal a “genetic blueprint” we are born with, but accumulations in the eye can build up over the years because of the how we eat, drink, think, feel and live our lives. Iridology is a holistic approach to diagnosing and determining treatment tailored to the individual. Treatment includes herbs, vitamins, supplements, dietary changes, etc.

Since each section of the iris correlates directly to a specific internal organ, iris analysis can uncover hereditary predispositions to degenerative conditions decades before symptoms occur or diagnostic testing may reveal. Therefore, it is a valuable asset for preventive health care.

The science and practice of iridology is not new; it is 3,000 years old and is practiced all over the world.

During the first half of the 20th century, iridiagnosis (as it was called then) was used in the U.S. primarily by medical doctors. Here’s a quote from Henry Lindlahr, M.D., circa 1919:

“The regular school of medicine (allopathic), as a body, has ignored and will ignore this science (of iridology), because it discloses the fallacy of their favorite theories and practices and because it reveals unmistakably the direful results of chronic drug poisoning (pharmaceuticals) and ill-advised operations.”

Because the emerging pharmaceutical industry put political and economic pressure on medical schools, iridology was removed from the curriculum. Then, in the latter half of the 20th century, it came back. Most notably, the late Bernard Jensen was its champion and kept it alive in this country.

Today, Dr. David J. Pesek, a Jensen protégé, has taken the lead in advancing the science and practice of iridology. He has developed holistic iridology, a leading-edge system of interpreting not only physical predispositions in the eyes, but also strong thought and emotional patterns.

Each eye gives us different information. The left eye correlates with the left side of our body, which is that feminine, creative side of us. The right eye correlates to the right side of the body, which is the masculine, practical side of us.

Iridology provides a painless, economical and non-invasive means of assessing health status. It is important to note that iridology is not used for diagnosis. Rather, it is used as a means of assessment for conditions and levels of health. Iris analysis is most effectively done by imaging both eyes with a specialized magnifying lens and flashlight. The eyes truly are the bridge between the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical aspects of our human nature.

Although conventional medicine offers many valuable tools for assessing and treating health problems, it has some significant shortcomings.

First, its strength is in looking more at the part of the body rather than the whole body.

Second, many of its diagnostic methods can discover a problem only at its advanced stages.

For these reasons, and others, there is a growing interest in a more comprehensive or holistic vision of health, in early detection of disease tendencies, and in more modest health-care costs. Accordingly, for the past 40 years or more, there has been a growing interest in safe, effective and low-cost approaches.

Iridology has a valuable role to play in creating the health-care system of the future. It is completely safe and non-invasive. It detects not diseases in the sense of conventional medicine, but rather tendencies for certain organs and tissues to become abnormal. And its cost is minimal, and truly affordable out-of-pocket, for everyone.
